Another original short story written by me in a child friendly vocabulary set in 1895, Jayne, the young lady of the house is attending a ball in the manor and waiting patiently for a young suiter to appear. There are various characters in the story and this could be used as an introduction to a long novel, Shakespearian or Dickensian literature in preparation for Grammar/ Secondary school. There are pages to read and discuss so I have included a powerpoint presentation followed by comprehension questions, writing activities and drawing conclusions. There is dictionary work and internet research.

I was delighted when this poem was published a few years ago by Readers Digest. They will be looking at choices, rules and friendship and ways to improve work. There are Individual worksheets which can be printed out separately and others when children will work with a partner for talking and listening.
